This winter’s heavy rains and sunshine have been an absolute boon for the weeds! Weeding is part of life at this time of year, but there is another way. An easy method for weed suppression is to use weedmat, of which there are two main types. Spun-bonded mats allow air and water to pass through, and holes can easily be made in it for planting. An absence of weeds gives new plants the space they need to have the best possible start to the growing season. Woven weedmat is more durable and best used under pavers, shadehouse floors, pebbles, gravel, mulch or woodchips – wherever you need an impermeable base. Either way, they’re quick and easy to install, and offer a relatively inexpensive way of coping with weeds. Both types of weedmat are available at Crackpots by the metre; both come in 1.8m widths and the woven is also available in 3.6m widths.
